Death Plays

Early in the morning

Of All Hallow’s Eve

Death donned her costume

A cloak for mortals to perceive

Her scythe in her right hand

Her basket in the left

She danced in the streets

No longer bereft

She sang with the children

Who giggled with delight

Treats filled her basket

Wandering the night

Sad was she when it was over

The night could not last

No children to play with

This moment had passed.
