31 Days of Halloween – Day 4

Day 4 – Best Halloween/Fall Themed Food

When I was a child, we had this tradition of going to either a store or a pumpkin patch, picking out our individual pumpkins and then taking them home to carve them.  When we were done carving them and removing their guts, we would then take the seeds and spread them out on a cookie sheet and my mother would salt them and roast them in the oven for whatever length of time.  When they were done, we had our snack.  To me, this screams Halloween.  I cannot have pumpkin seeds without automatically remembering the carving of the pumpkins.

I don’t remember the exact recipe my mother used (I’m not even sure there really was one), but I have included a link to a recipe for Roasted Pumpkin Seeds for those of you who would like to try it.  Enjoy!

  1. Mmm. . . pumpkin seeds.

Halloween is when I make the inaugural batch of spiced cider every year. Mine is sweeter than most because it contains 3 clove infused oranges, about a quarter cup of honey, and a can of pineapple juice. Definitely a diabetic nightmare, but soooooo good for either mornings or bedtime.
