I have two vices. Cigarettes and Dr. Pepper. I can’t go a single day without either one of these things. I can live without the internet (I’d be bored, but I could survive). I don’t have a television. (Well, we have one, but my son uses it to play his Xbox). I don’t do recreational drugs. I don’t drink excessively (a glass of wine here or there, but that is all).
But cigarettes and Dr. Pepper are what I can’t live without.
When we moved, I made the conscious choice to not smoke in our new place. And, so far, I have kept up with that bargain. Even when it was pouring rain outside, I didn’t smoke inside. I’ve managed to cut down from about two packs or more a day to just under a pack a day by making that simple choice. I’m hoping to eventually eliminate it entirely from my life.
As for the Dr. Pepper, I am most likely going to end up a diabetic because of the habit. I hate diet soda with a passion, and water is simply too boring for me. The good news is that I’m not really into any other sweets. I don’t eat my birthday cake. Halloween candy could last me until the following year if it wasn’t for my family devouring it before then. I might occasionally get a craving for something sweet, but it is extremely rare compared to most people.
I believe I have a better chance of quitting smoking than I do of kicking the Dr. Pepper habit. Oh, well, everyone has to have at least one vice.
