The metal men were getting closer. Shelly hid behind a dumpster hoping they wouldn’t find her. She’d seen them kill so many of her friends and family. Somebody had called them Cybermen. To her they were simply nightmare in silver. She prayed to whatever god might be listening that they wouldn’t find her hiding place.
They were right in front of her when someone grabbed her hand and simply said, “Run”. She didn’t know why, but she obeyed instantly. She held onto that hand for dear life. Following a strange man wasn’t something she did on a regular basis, but this wasn’t an ordinary circumstance.
He led her to a blue police box. She didn’t even know they still existed and she didn’t think it was safe to be hiding in a wooden box from these metal creatures. The man opened the door and said, “Come on.” Shelly didn’t know why, but she obeyed, glancing back at the silver figures that were following them.
She stumbled to a halt when she got inside the box. She had expected something much smaller, but it was some sort of ship on the inside.
“Who are you?” she asked with trepidation in her voice.
“How do you know my name?” Shelly asked.
“I’m a Time Lord,” he explained. “I know everything that I need to know about you.” He turned a monitor to face her and she saw a basic biography of her life upon it.
“Where are we going?” she asked. She had already decided to go with him. She didn’t know why, but something inside of her told her that she must.
“Anywhere in time and space that you wish,” he answered.
“Surprise me,” she smiled, taking his hand in hers.
