“Love” Changes People

It’s amazing to me how people can change once they are in a relationship.  For example, I have a friend who just started dating someone he met on the internet.  Amazingly, he travelled across two states to meet this person and it wasn’t a “catfish” type of situation.  She was real.  Imagine my surprise.  That aside, ever since he has been dating her, our relationship has changed.  Suddenly he has become sensitive to everything I say.  At first it was reasonable enough.  He deleted a comment I had made on his Facebook that his new girlfriend might have taken the wrong way.  I understood that and even forgave that.  But then he started to not talk with me as often.  And now he got upset about a comment I had made about him getting a cat and he actually went so far as to delete my comments and tell me that he was “ridding himself of negativity”.

He tries to claim that it has nothing to do with the new girlfriend, but I can see the pattern begin.  I’m not one to put up with that kind of stuff, so I immediately unfriended him on Facebook and told him that if I can’t see his statuses, I can’t comment on them.  I probably seem like I’m having a temper tantrum, but I seriously cannot stand it when the rules of a relationship change just because the other person is in a romantic relationship.  Why can’t people stay the same as they always are?  Why do they have to change for the sake of another person?  In the end it never works.  The other person sees you for who you are eventually.  Either they except you for that or they don’t.

Of course, this may be why I am perpetually single.  I absolutely refuse to change for the sake of another person.  What you see is what you get.  If you don’t like it, keep walking by.  Maybe I am a bitch to some extent.  But I am seriously not going to sugar coat things for someone I have known since I was in 4th grade.  That is utterly ridiculous.  But I’m also not going to weep for the person who chooses to change the rules this far into the game either.
