My daughter and I decided to start trying to watch our weight. I am decidedly heavier than I have ever been. I’m currently 164 pounds and have even gone up to 170 pounds at times. Back in high school I maintained a weight of 108 pounds, so there is a huge difference. I’m not looking to be 108 pounds again, but I think getting down to between 135 and 140 would be reasonable. Heck, at this point I would be happy with 145-150.
We started this program (myfitnesspal.com) by not changing a whole lot about our eating habits, but by logging everything we were consuming and changing little things at first. Instead of buying white bread, I started buying whole wheat bread and whole wheat pasta as well. I also went out and bought fruits and veggies and made snack bags for my daughter to easily grab and go. The bags are labeled with the serving size as well as the amount of calories.
I love this app because it helps me to know what nutrients I am getting plenty of in my regular diet and what nutrients I am deficient in. For instance, I noticed that neither me nor my daughter were getting nearly enough potassium in our diets. So, I went online and found a list of high potassium foods and bought them, trying to incorporate them into our regular diets. For instance, did you even know that molasses is a good source of potassium? I didn’t, so now I plan on using it every chance I get.
I haven’t been too great about maintaining my calorie intake yet but I am hoping to work my way to that. I’m not doing horribly, though. This app helps make it so much easier.
